Guinea Pig Sounds

There are a large range of #keyword# that you may hear in your pet guinea pig .This is a form of communication for them. Some people believe that that is why guinea pigs are very docile and loving creatures, because they have quite a complex communication system. Most of the times a guinea pig will not physically fight, but will sort the disagreement out with a series of sounds. In this article we will take a look at the different types of #keyword#you may hear.

The Purr
Contented Purr

This power will occur when the guinea pig is being groomed by its owner or its guinea pig companions. This is a very instinctive and quiet sound as the guinea pig’s sit back and enjoy the attention.

Amorous Purr
This purr occurs when the guinea pig is feeling amorous. It is generally louder and more vibrational. It is sensuous and often accompanied by swaying and hip twitching

Aggressive Purr
This purr is more of a growl and is much louder than the other two #keyword#. There can often be a pacing of the feet accompanying this sound.

The Squeak
A guinea pig has lots of different squeaking noises. They can mean a whole range of emotions.

Group Squeaking
This is the most common kind of squeaking you will hear from your guinea pigs. It occurs when there are a few guinea pigs in one spot and can sound a little bit like a conversation. These #keyword# are low pitched and will come in short bursts.

Annoyance Squeak
This is high-pitched and sometimes sounds like a stutter.

Alarm Squeak
This is very high-pitched. It’s no wonder the sound was probably designed to warn the other guinea pigs in the group, and to frighten any predators. It can sound quite wild.

Interrogatory Squeak
This guinea pigs sound is made when a guinea pig experiences something unfamiliar. It is usually accompanied by sniffing and intensely looking around.

Hut Hut Hut
Another one of the #keyword# that you may hear is the Hut Hut Hut. This is generally heard when a guinea pig is exploring a new place or wandering around the house.

The “Drr” Sound
This guinea pigs sound can be heard when a guinea pig hears an unfamiliar noise. For example if a new mobile phone rings you might heal guinea pig making a drr noise. It can be explained as a sound of puzzlement.

Murmur Sound
Guinea pigs will murmur when they experiencing the contentment or delight. This can happen when the guinea pig is being stroked, or perhaps if it is fed some juicy fresh food. It can be used as an alternative to the common per you will hear when they are being given attention. It is also sometimes heard when two guinea pig companions snuggled together.

Guinea Pig Song
Guinea pigs unknown to sometimes if a performance that can look and sound like it is singing a song. This sound is a little bit of a mystery and no real meaning can be determined for it. It generally starts with a “chirrup” and then a peep peep peep is brought into play.. as the guinea pig continues to sing it can look like it is in a trance. All the other guinea pigs in a cage will generally freeze at the sound of this song. Most times the song just tapers off or stops abruptly with the guinea pig looking completely unaware of what has happened. This situation is generally not anything to worry about and generally occurs in quiet periods where there is no stress around.
